HD Streaming
Hi,

I've been doing video work for a couple of years now, and am looking to stream live for the organization I do work for. I have a Sony HDR-SR12, which is great for capturing HD video for editing and publishing. Apparantly, though, I can't use it to stream HD video. I called Sony and they confirmed that, and I've tried it for myself.

Can anybody suggest a camera to broadcast in HD, and any additional software I might need? I have researched for a month on the internet and don't know why I can't seem to figure this out...

Any help is deeply appreciated!!

Thanks,
Jim

RE: HD Streaming
How exactly are you trying to stream it ?

Not many consumer camcorders will allow you to output live video in over Firewire/USB connections.

You may however be able to do it over HDMI if you were to invest in something like a Black Magic Design Intensity HDMI capture card.

RE: HD Streaming
Dave, thanks for the response. I tried with USB and HDMI and had no luck. The camera does not have a firewire output. I will look into the card that you suggest and will give it a try. Thanks!

RE: HD Streaming
I just checked into the Black Magic card...I forgot to mention that I would be streaming to a laptop, not a desktop. Do you know of any casings that I can purchase to house the BM card, since I'll need it with a laptop. From what I understand, they only recommend their cards be used with desktops.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Something like:

?

What sort of resolution are you looking at streaming in ? Is component video out from the existing camera an option ?

RE: HD Streaming
Thanks for the link...I just ordered the Magma Express Box Pro yesterday, for pickup tomorrow (I live and work right by them).

I'm looking to stream in full HD if possible, but would settle for 1280x720p if I can't successfully handle that much data through my connection. I will initially be trying to go with 1920x1080p, this Sunday, if all goes well.

Since uncompressed HD is a massive amount of data, I'm looking into Cineform's ProspectHD software. From what I understand, and from the examples I've seen it provides all but lossless compression. It actually shows a lot better than AVCHD, which is what format my SR12 records in.

Hello:

BlackMagic Cards are very good for streaming. As for the video camera I would suggest you a Canon Vixia HF10 for HD streaming.
HAve a look at tikilive.com or blinkotv.com as software solutions for doing HD streaming LIVE. Let me know what questions you may have.

RE: HD Streaming
Hello again:

What do you mean with "better" ? Do you reffer to the video quality , available features or what exactly ? In my opinion they are.
