Hello,
I am still getting used to this whole fandangled forum thing....although smileys are a novelty! Not so sure I am young enough to be a "junior member" either. I have an .avi file consisting of slide builds and an audio track. Does anyone have any experience with or could recommend a software package that can ACCURATELY provide scene changes? I have tried it in Premier Elements 3.0 and it doesn't recognise the scenes accurately. Ultimately I want to export a marker or timing file of the scenechanges / slides builds. The alternative is to run through these presentations again in real time and I don't fancy 100 hours of that! RE: Accurate Scenechanges
Maybe I missed my chance to help but I have played with a few methods. Although I didn't see it through to a perfect solution, maybe I can offer a few tidbits.
Accordent and Mediasite do this well by using their own proprietary motion detection via their Webcast appliance's VGA capture card during live capture. Premiere seems to only do scene detecion according to DV timecode so if the deck or camera never stopped rolling, there is no scene change. Some tools actually analyze the video file itself for drastic changes. One such tool I have used is Handy Saw, although it is really designed to cut the AVI into indivdual "scene sized" files. It can export an EDL but I had hard time converting this to a format I could use in automated workflow. Everything else I have seen has been in the form of software developmnent kits and tools designed for security and motion detection applications. I have not dove into custom development with any of these. (02-04-2009 10:14 AM)Craig@GroovyGecko Wrote: Hello, |

RE: Accurate Scenechanges
Thanks S. Quite helpful. The fact that few people replied to this (and this forum is packed full of the industry's brightest) means that this is either not a general requirement or that the tech is just not there. I remember that Automony had a feature where it would not only detect frame accurate scene changes, but also recognise the object in the frame - eg Big Ben. It then automatically added this info the the metadata. It was very cool. Not sure if that tech is still used anywhere.
Thanks for your response. Craig Craig Moehl groovygecko.com | 100% Streaming | London based, serving the world |

RE: Accurate Scenechanges
From my experience with the forums, I find lots of expertise and interest on the video side, but much less who deal with synchronized slides. From my research the technology is all there but requires custom development to yield anything time saving. The providers have done the development on their platforms but there are very few "widgets" and utilities available for peoples' unique "per project" situations.
Maybe there is room for a whole seperate online forum just on this topic. I could throw something together if there was enough dialogue. Steve |
