Company / Patent for sale - video banner technology
Posted By: Craig Moehl
I believe this is quite topical especially after Dan's article on the site and on Acacia Research etc... Dan, please excuse me for blatantly making use of this forum to flog something, however whatever your views on Patents and intellectual property, a lot of vision, time and resources went into this technology and I would like it to have a new home. If nothing else it will hopefully fuel the current discussion on patents... I have been tasked with disposing of a company "Banner Stream Limited" or the patents owed by the company that are potentially very valuable. I have a limited time to do this, i.e. before the next stage of the patent lapses, so to keep this intellectual property alive someone will need to act quickly if they believe that it will be of value to them. It would suit anyone that uses video on their site or anyone with an ad-sales application involving video (are the big boys listening?) 1) Essentially the patent surrounds the method of "sniff and push". Ordinary Code is presented that ascertains what o/s, browser, player and bandwidth each viewers has (the sniff) and based on that "pushes" code that correctly calls the video file. Note that the format of the video is irrelevant - it's the method that patented. Remember this pertains specifically to internet video. 2) Also available is a unique piece of very complex java code with database that is basically a fully-fledged ad-management system. It also keeps track of campaigns, click-throughs etc. The beauty of the code is that you could do the sniff and push inside a banner on any site without needing control of the real-estate around the banner.. it's pretty impressive. Sadly the actual server is down now, however there is a mock-up at : http://www.groovygecko.com/examples/banner.html This is an EMBEDDED player with code on the page to embed it. The Bannerstream solution can delver this advert to ANY webpage - i.e. in the ad-space on Google for example... DETAILS OF THE PATENTS in the EU and the USA. Euro EP1128286 (EPC01301486.5) published and USA USA09/507,922 pending Here is the link to the EU patent. Active content delivery system Patent Number: EP1128286 Publication date: 2001-08-29 Application Number: EP20010301486 20010220 Priority Number(s): US20000507922 20000222 IPC Classification: G06F17/30 ; H04L29/06 EC Classification: G06F17/30F2 Equivalents: MORE DETAILS incl. DIAGRAMS, CLAIMS etc http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DBODOC&IDX1128286 And yes, I am expecting the usual banter about the morality of patents and who can prove what when, and "I saw a site do this in 1901, so the patent can't be valid" etc...so bring it on...... Seriously, if anyone can find a home for this technology I'd be most grateful! Have a groovy weekend!
